Southern Caramel Cake
Real caramel poured over a sturdy vanilla cake - it’s the real deal! There are easier “quicker” recipes out there. But they pale in comparison (brown sugar-flavored glaze?). The texture of the icing and the cake…..well, it takes the cake.
Caramel Cake - Favorite Caramel Frosting

Ingredients
1 (8 oz) carton sour cream
1/4 cup milk
1 cup butter, softened
2 cups sugar
4 large eggs
2.75 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon rum extract (optional)
Favorite Caramel Frosting
3 cups sugar, divided
3/4 cup milk
1 large egg, lightly beaten
pinch of salt
1/2 cup butter or margarine, cut up
Bake temp: 350F/175C
Bake time: 35 minutes
Caramel temp: 235F/113C
Caramel cook time: 18-24 minutes
